Flamingo

Hi there!
make yourself a cuppa, as this is going to be a long post!!!! with lots of pictures!

It is almost two months I have been living with a Flamingo. Yes, a Flamingo!! not a real one, but a paper-mache flamingo, 105cm tall.
I transformed my kitchen in a temporary studio (not that Marisa, the rabbit, was extremely happy....), so I could decorate it.
I am proud to present to the internet community the result tonight (I did a night shoot as well).
The flamingo was gesso-ed twice, and covered with tissue paper. I did not want to use ready-made paper, so I made my own using Gelli Plate! It was very interesting and rewarding, drawing patters with Catalyst tools, and using acrylic colours. In a matter of minutes, the living room was inundated with drying stamps.
Once dried, I cut the printed tissue paper, and decoupaged all the surface, using the Decopatch glue. It is similar to PVA, but I found this glue excellent for ironing out all the creases the tissue paper might have. The white gesso underneath really makes the bright colours (and white) pop out! I repeated printing tissue paper for each section (body, legs, neck, base, etc), and I co
At first, I was not satisfied with the legs. I made them too red. So I re-gessoed the legs (over the glued paper) and reapplied a new layer of paper, this time printed with much more white.
The flamingo will be moved soon into its permanent location, which is our pottery studio (www.3madpotters.co.uk). We are having a grand opening soon, so it will be displayed alongside our pottery items which will be on sale (the flaming won't be on sale!!). Hopefully, it will inspire our visitors, being a centrepiece! I will miss not having the flamingo around the house, but I am making room for my next project (which needs to be moved from the attic to the kitchen... the kitchen is like a home-studio!!!).
I hope you will like the flamingo!!
